How to Reattach the Fake Brick on a Fireplace

    • 1). Clean any loose mortar from the back of the fake brick with a stiff wire brush. Knock any loose mortar from the surface of the fireplace. Clean the loose grout away from the fake brick and fireplace surface if the bricks have grout between them.

    • 2). Spread pre-mixed thinset or repair mortar designed to repair ceramic tile, porcelain and stone across the back of the fake brick with a margin trowel. Place the fake brick onto the fireplace surface.

    • 3). Secure the fake brick to the fireplace using painter's tape. Use two or three pieces of tape to hold the brick to the bricks that are still secured to the fireplace. Allow the mortar to dry for the time specified by the manufacturer.

    • 4). Mix grout that matches the current grout by following the directions of the grout manufacturer. Place the grout into a grout bag and fill the space around the reattached brick with grout. Do this step only if your fake brick has grout separating each brick.
