How to Keep Rug Edges From Rolling When Cleaning

    • 1). Stand on the outside of the rug. Face the edge you are cleaning first. Start on one of the corners.

    • 2). Place a heavy object such as a brick or a speaker on the rug edge. Set the object down, near the opposite corner. The exact location depends on how large the rug is. If the rug is 12 feet, place the object 6 feet from the corner.

    • 3). Place the vacuum or broom halfway on and off the carpet at the corner you are standing. Put your foot behind the vacuum to hold down the carpet behind you.

    • 4). Vacuum or sweep the area between your foot and the heavy object. Always keep the vacuum or broom halfway on and off the carpet.

    • 5). Move the heavy object to the end corner. Walk along the edge, stepping on the rug after cleaning to keep in place. Vacuum or sweep along the edge until you get to the object.

    • 6). Take the object off the rug. Turn the vacuum or broom over the corner in a half-circle to the next edge. Repeat the steps to clean the remaining rug edges.
