Kids' Christmas Arts & Crafts Ideas

    Gift Box Ornaments

    • Save empty boxes, such as baking soda boxes, soap bar boxes and clean juice boxes, for children to wrap like presents. Tape a small piece of ribbon in a loop to hang the gift box ornaments from the Christmas tree, or use tape to fix a loop of string to each box. They can also place the wrapped gift box ornaments under a small decorative Christmas tree.

    Pine Cone Christmas Tree

    • Help your child hot glue a juice lid to the bottom of a large pine cone so it stands freely. Allow her to use a paintbrush and green acrylic paint to paint the entire pine cone. Before the paint dries, sprinkle glitter, beads and star-shaped sequins over the pine cone. Cut a yellow star out of construction paper and glue it to the top of the pine cone. If the children want to make this craft as an ornament, omit the juice lid and tie a piece of ribbon around the top of the pine cone.

    Gourd Snowman

    • Purchase a gourd that has a natural snowman shape: round large bottom and small round top. Tell your child to apply several coats of white acrylic paint to the gourd. When the paint dries, he can use small markers to draw a carrot nose and rosy red cheeks. Tell him to use a black marker to draw on the coal buttons, eyes and mouth. He can use small pieces of fabric to make a scarf to tie around the snowman's neck and hat for his head.

    Beaded Pipe Cleaners

    • Give your children several pipe cleaners and pony beads, making sure the beads have a large enough opening for the pipe cleaners. Kids can make a candy cane using a red pipe cleaner, white pony beads and shaping it to resemble a candy cane. Another idea is to slide different-colored beads on a green pipe cleaner to resemble a Christmas wreath with ornaments. Children can also tie ribbon to the pipe cleaner shapes and use them as ornaments.
