How to Make a Butterfly Hair Clip Out of Ribbon

    • 1). Measure the ribbon with the ruler; measure one strand of ribbon to 7 inches in length, a second strand to 3 1/2 inches in length and a third strand to 2 inches in length. Cut the ribbon to the correct lengths.

    • 2). Fold each piece of ribbon in half, creating a crease in the middle. Using the 7-inch strand, grab one end of the ribbon, give a half twist and fold it toward the center, so the back part of the ribbon is touching the front part of the ribbon. Glue the ribbon to the crease. This will create what appears to be a wing.

    • 3). Fold the other side of the ribbon the same as the first and glue to the middle crease. You will now have two wings.

    • 4). Fold the 3 1/2-inch strand the same as the first strand and glue. This strand will turn into a smaller set of wings for the lower half of the butterfly.

    • 5). Drop a small dab of hot glue on the small set of wings where the ribbons meet, and firmly press the larger set of wings on top of the smaller set. After completing this step you should see the shape of a butterfly forming.

    • 6). Fold the raw edges of the 2-inch strand over and glue with hot glue. Folding the raw edges creates the butterfly’s body.

    • 7). Place a line of hot glue down the entire length of the 2-inch strand and place it down the center of the wings.

    • 8). Glue a couple of buttons onto the body of the butterfly using the hot glue gun.

    • 9). Apply hot glue to the alligator hair clip and press the butterfly firmly on top of the clip. Hold the butterfly and hair clip firmly together until the hot glue has had time to firmly set the two pieces together. Turn the butterfly either vertically or horizontally, depending on your preference.
