Pond Liner Problems
- The first problem with pond liners is that they cannot keep the natural pond ecosystem alive on their own. If you want to stimulate the growth of water plants and pond animals, such as fish and frogs in your pond, then you will either have to build pond ridges manually by machine, which takes time and money, or do away with the liner and opt for a preformed pond.
- Sometimes, rocks, debris or age can tear a hole in the pond liner, causing water to escape. If you notice that the pond is losing water consistently, you will need to locate the hole by draining the pond. Many pond liners come with patching kits and you can easily repair the crack.
- Occasionally, air will become trapped beneath your liner, causing it to float to the surface. To get rid of the excess air, lower the water level and walk along the liner to push the air out. Floating liners could also be caused by a high water table and increased water pressure beneath the liner. If this is the case, you will need to remove the liner and place PVC pipes under it to run the water out.
