Sears Lawn Mower Stops After a Few Minutes
- 1). Verify there's fuel in the tank if the mower runs for a few minutes and then stops. If the fuel is left over from the previous season, replace it. If you've identified that there's fuel, and it's new fuel, replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter is usually in the tank and can be grabbed with a wire coat hanger. Inspect it for debris and replace it.
- 2). Inspect the air filter if the mower continues to stop after only a few minutes. The foam part is called the pre-cleaner and can be washed out rather than replaced. Wash and dry it, and then liberally soak it in oil. Squeeze excess oil out into a paper towel. Replace the paper part of the air filter --- don't bother trying to wash it, because it's not designed for that and can rip.
- 3). Identify any load issues that could be stopping the mower from running. If the grass is exceptionally long and/or wet, raise the mower deck and try the mower again. Turn the mower off and clear accumulated grass from the mower deck if the engine continues to stop while mowing.
