How to Determine If Hardware Can Support a 64-Bit Operating System
- 1). Click on the "Hardware Tab" on Microsoft's "Windows 7---Compatibility, Software Programs and Hardware Devices" Web page.
- 2). Click on the icon of the category that your hardware device falls under. Choose a subcategory from the drop-down menu. For example, click on "Graphics Cards & Components." Click on "Graphics Cards" from the drop-down menu.
- 3). Click on the "64-Bit Windows 7" link in the "Select a system type" section.
- 4). Click on the brand name of your hardware device under the "Common Brands" in the "Search a results filter" section. Continuing with the graphics card example, click on "Asus."
- 5). Click on "Compatible" under "Compatibility."
- 6). Scroll down to see the results in the middle of the page. Click the down arrow next to "Sort" and choose "Product Name (A-Z)."
- 7). Click the blue icon next to "Page 1 of..." to advance the Web page. Click on the link of the hardware you are interested in to navigate to a Web page with greater detail about the device's compatibility with 64-bit operating systems.
