- 1). Decide where you want the sprinkler head to go. Dig an eight- to 12-inch-deep trench, stretching from the current location of the sprinkler head to where the new one is going to be placed.
- 2). Turn off the controls to the irrigation system at the control center. Unscrew the sprinkler head from the riser and then unscrew the riser.
- 3). Insert the flex pipe elbow into the previously existing elbow combination. Tighten the elbow as tightly as you can with your hands. Attach a 3/8-inch flex pipe to the flex pipe elbow by attaching it to the nipple. The nipple is marked by a flex pipe that has a smaller diameter than the water pipe line.
- 4). Connect a flex pipe elbow to the other end of the pipe. Screw the sprinkler head onto the elbow, turning it until it is hand tight. Hold the sprinkler head where you want it and begin to fill the surrounding area with sod. Once the head is secure in the ground, re-fill the trench with sod.
