Sango's 411:

Sango is a highly skilled Taijiya, or Youkai (demon) exterminator.

She is a member in a large Taijiya group led by her father, also the leader of her village.

While battling a spider demon at a grand castle, the Lord of the castle (who is really Naraku in disguise) gains control over Sango's brother Kohaku and causes him to kill all the other Taijiya. But before he can kill Sango, Kohaku is killed by archers, leaving Sango alone and wounded.

Naruku cares for Sango and when she is healed, he tells her that Inuyasha is the one who destroyed her village. Sango heads out after Inuyasha, but he is able to convince Sango that she has been tricked by Naruku.

Sango uses a variety of weapons to fight the Youkai, but her weapons of choice are a katana and the Hiraikotsu, a large boomerang made from the bones of Youkai she has killed. Sango also keeps a cat-like Youkai as a pet, named Kirara.

Sango's village is where the Shikon no Tama jewel was actually created.
