How to Cut Into Ceilings

    • 1). Purchase a high-quality 2- or 2 1/2-inch angled sash brush.

    • 2). Loosely hold the paintbrush in your hand with three fingers (pointer, middle and ring) on the top with your thumb on the bottom.

    • 3). Dip the paintbrush in the paint. Drag one side of the paint against the can to wipe off the paint. Use the other side of the brush to paint the ceiling.

    • 4). Stand on the stepladder. Hold the paintbrush at the edge of the ceiling, gripping the brush as specified. The edge of the brush that has the most paint on it is the edge that should be touching the ceiling. The edge of the brush you wiped off on the side of the paint can is the edge that should be closest to the wall.

    • 5). Paint the edge of the ceiling by dragging the brush along the edge of the ceiling in long, straight lines. Go slowly at first; only speed up as you become more experienced. The edge of the brush should be as close to the edge of the wall as you can get it without painting the wall.
