How to Paint Concrete With Epoxy Paint
- 1). Sweep a large concrete floor space with a push-broom. Brush dust and dirt off a wall surface with a small hand-broom.
- 2). Wear rubber gloves and wash the concrete with a muriatic acid cleanser and a rag. Muriatic acid cleansers are heavily diluted. The acid is usually not strong enough to harm your skin, but gloves protect against possible allergic reactions to other ingredients in the cleaning product.
- 3). Rinse the concrete with a garden hose to remove any leftover cleaning residue. For an indoor space where garden hoses are not practical, dampen a rag to rinse off the excess muriatic solution.
- 4). Mix epoxy paint in a large bucket if necessary. Pre-mixed epoxy paint is available, but a two-part epoxy solution offers a stronger resin for longer lasting results. If you're using a two-part epoxy, measure your quantities in liquid measuring cups according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Stir the paint mix for 10 minutes with a wooden stir stick. Stir gently to avoid air bubbles in the mixture.
- 5). Paint the concrete surface with a medium-to-heavy nap roller or synthetic-bristle paintbrush. Light-nap or foam rollers don't work well with most epoxy paints. After you paint the concrete, let the epoxy cure for at least 24 hours before using the area. Epoxy paint will dry within hours, but it won't fully cure for an entire day.
