How to Use Solvent-Based Ink With Homemade Rubber Stamps

    • 1). Prepare a protected work surface, placing a stack of three damp paper towels to one side.

    • 2). Lay your homemade rubber stamp image side up on your work surface. With the solvent ink pad in your hand, gently tap the pad against the rubber stamp you've inked the entire surface. Set the ink pad down and cover it so it won't dry out.

    • 3). Stamp the image onto the surface of your project. Apply even pressure to the image. For large images, stand up and apply pressure with both hands. Remove the stamp. The ink will dry within seconds.

    • 4). Blot the rubber stamp onto the paper towel to remove any ink that didn't transfer to your project.

    • 5). Clean the stamp if you won't be using it again on this project, or if you want to ink with a color lighter than the first impression. Wet the bar of pumice-powdered soap and vigorously rub the bar back and forth across the rubber. Don't rub so hard the rubber is damaged.

    • 6). Blot the stamp again on the paper towel until no soap remains. Any remaining ink stains will not harm the rubber and will be light enough to allow you to see your future inkings.

    • 7). Allow the stamp to dry and store it away from direct sunlight.
