Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) is a commonly used software for creating editable word-processing forms. Part of a PDF's security settings allows for creators and users to restrict what parts of the document can be edited, copied, printed or altered, using a password code for access. If that password is lost, the document can become unusable, and must be re-created from scratch: a costly outcome for businesses and a headache for individuals. Fortunately, this is a common enough problem that various developers have designed software that removes password and other security restrictions on PDF documents. - Ovis pdf-Recover, made by Universe software gmbh, removes security and master-password settings on PDF documents, creating a usable copy of the master document without any restrictions. Ovis pdf-Recover works for master passwords but will not decrypt user-level passwords. Ovis pdf-Recover works with Windows 9x or later, Vista, MacOSX and Linux. A free trial version is available that will open the first page of a PDF so that potential buyers can test it up front, and the full version sells (as of 2010) for less than $50.00.
