Cleaning Grout on Ceramic Tile Floors
- 1). Sweep the floor thoroughly to remove any loose bits of dust, dirt or debris that may get in the way.
- 2). Add oxygen bleach to a bucket of warm water. Read the manufacturer's instructions for the correct ratio of water to oxygen bleach, and be sure to stir it around until it dissolves completely into the water. A broom handle or any utensil will do the trick.
- 3). Pour the solution directly onto the floor. The solution should fill and flood the grout lines. Work in small areas of the floor at a time if you have a large area to cover.
- 4). Allow the solution to sit on the grout for at least 15 minutes. If it becomes absorbed onto the grout, add more of the solution to keep the area soaking for at least 15 to 30 minutes. The longer the solution is on the grout, the more time it has to work on cleaning the grout.
- 5). Scrub the grout with a soft-bristle or medium-bristle brush to help loosen any stubborn dirt or stains, adding fresh solution to the area you're working on to keep it damp.
- 6). Rinse the area with a clean, damp sponge to help pick up any residue that the oxygen bleach solution has helped to remove.
- 7). Wipe up the floor with a clean, dry towel. Allow the floor time to finish air drying before allowing it to be walked on. Opening windows and using a fan can create airflow over the floor so it will dry quickly.
