    Brenham's History

    • Washington County dates back to 1837, when it was named “Washington-on-the-Brazos.” The city of Brenham was officially established in 1884 and named for a member of the Mier Expedition, Richard Fox Brenham. There are a number of historical sites to explore, such as the Brenham Heritage Museum and the Burton Farmers Gin and Museum. You can also take the Heritage Home Tours, which starts at the 1843 “Giddings-Wilikin House.”

      Dixieland Texas Retreat RV Park sprawls across 15 acres and offers full hookups, free wireless Internet, roomy RV sites that can accommodate larger RVs, fishing ponds, restrooms and laundry facilities.

    • Recreational activities near Brenham’s RV parks include boating, swimming, hunting and fishing at Somerville Lake, antiquing in Carmine, or visiting historical sites such as Browning Plantation, Knittel Homestead, Giddings Stone Mansion or Washington-On-The-Brazos State Historical Park. Additional nearby attractions include the Chappell Hill Historical Museum, Burton Cotton Gin, Blue Bell Creameries and the Heritage Home Tours. Brenham also has several festivals that visitors may enjoy, including the Official Bluebonnet Festival of Texas, the Texas Independence Day Celebration, the Washington County Fair, the Poinsettia Celebration and the Christmas Stroll.
