7 RV Destinations Perfect for Christmas Travel

If you’ve had a little too much holiday action in your household, you may decide to take to the roads for a more relaxed break. Fortunately, there are many options available for RVs during Christmas. Let’s look at my seven favorite places to spend Christmas RVing with your family.

Yosemite National Park, CA

Yosemite is brimming with guests during the peak summer season but you’ll find a much more intimate park if you choose to go over the holidays.

Even during snowfall, there is still plenty of attractions and great views open at the park and seeing them covered in snow is a surreal experience. For an unforgettable dining experience, you need to head to the famous Awhanee Lodge for the Bracebridge Dinner. The Bracebridge is a throwback to the 18th century, four hours of entertainment with a full seven course dinner.

Estes Park, CO

Estes Park in Colorado has already made a number of lists and once again finds its way onto mine. Christmastime is an excellent time to visit Estes Park, the streets are decorated the shops are filled with Christmas cheer, and of course, it’s a great time to get some skiing and snowboarding in. There are also several great dining options on Christmas Day so you can find the right match for you and your family. Pay attention because some restaurants require reservations.

Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

Winter and Christmas are surprisingly one of the best times to visit the Grand Canyon. You won’t have to worry about cars clogging the more popular destinations and the sweltering heat of Arizona in the summer.

The Grand Canyon Railway is a must for anyone visiting the park and it gets even better at Christmas. The Railway is temporarily transformed into the Polar Express. Imagine how much holiday cheer will come from your kids riding the train to the North Pole to meet Santa.

Stone Mountain, GA

If you’re in the south, and don’t want to travel too far, Stone Mountain Park right outside of Atlanta actually offers a great RVing experience during the holidays. Stone Mountain Christmas lasts for more than a month so there’s plenty of time to experience the fun. There’s tubing, train rides, lights and much more. Your kids can meet Rudolph and the Abominable Snowman, check out Ice Age 4-D on the big screen and be sure to catch the fireworks.

Christmas, FL

What better place to experience Christmas than in Christmas? Leave the cold and snow behind and head down south to Florida to experience the holidays in shorts and a t-shirt. The town is actually named for Fort Christmas but there’s still a giant Christmas tree and even a Santa and sleigh on top of the RV park. If you want some real action, the theme parks of Greater Orlando are right around the corner including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Legoland and Disney World puts on one heck of a Christmas party.

Santa Claus, IN

This town in Indiana has taken the Christmas theme and really run with it. You’ll have a blast in Santa Claus, Indiana with all their holiday themed attractions such as the Santa Claus Museum, Santa’s Candy Castle, Frosty’s Fun Center. The town has the unique distinction of having a post office with the name of Santa Claus and is flooded with letters every year addressed to old St. Nick himself. Of course, you need to stay at Lake Rudolph Campground and RV Resort

Corpus Christi, TX

This another great choice for those who’d like to spend the holidays in some pleasant weather. Winter is one of the best times to visit this beach side destination if you want to avoid the rowdy college crowd. Corpus Christi also hosts the Harbor Lights Festival that includes a parade, kid friendly activities, lie music and of course the lighting of the tree.

As you can see, there's lots of places to RV to and get in the Christmas spirit.
