How to Draw a Scorpion Tattoo

    • 1). Determine the size and location of the tattoo. Using a ruler, measure the height and width of the scorpion onto a blank piece of paper. Mark the paper with a pencil, so you remember the dimensions you are working with.

    • 2). Set your picture of a scorpion next to your blank piece of paper. You will use this as a reference in drawing the tattoo. Sketch out the basic shape of the scorpion. This should consist of simple lines, circles, circles and squares that will develop shape over the next few steps. Take note of the oblong head, curved tail, the oval-shaped body, the curve of the eight legs and the oval-shaped claws. We will call these construction lines. Draw lightly, as these lines will be erased later.

    • 3). Focusing on the tail, sketch out the basic rectangular shape. Add the tail lines. Start by spacing the lines further apart from the body, making them closer together as you reach the stinger. Erase your construction lines, and connect your spaced lines to form the oblong shape of the tail segments.

    • 4). Sketch out the bead-shaped ligaments of the legs. This should look like small circles and ovals. Fill in the claws with more detailed shape. Notice that the top of the claw is larger than the bottom.

    • 5). Draw the mouth of the scorpion. It is in two segments located on the front of the head that are similar to the claws but much smaller.

    • 6). Erase your construction lines, and darken your permanent lines. Fill in with shading or color as desired. If using this exact picture for the tattoo, you will only need to have the outline of the scorpion, as the details will be added into the skin later.
