How to Repair an Irrigation System Line Break

    • 1). Locate the leak by looking for an overly wet area. Use a hand tool to dig around the area and find the line. Dig slowly so you don't cut into any other utilities.

    • 2). Turn off the water. Cut out a small section of the pipe the same length of the new pipe and coupler combined. Measure from the middle of each coupler.

    • 3). Put all the pieces together and set the new pipe in place to make sure that all pieces fit properly and that the new pipe is the correct length. Remove the new pieces and pull them back apart.

    • 4). Add glue to the inside of one coupler and the outside of one pipe end. Join the pieces together and wait for it to set. It will usually take around one minute. Repeat the process with the other coupler and pipe end.

    • 5). Apply glue to the inside of the other end of the couplers and the outside of the irrigation line. Join the new pipe to the line and wait at least five minutes before turning the water back on.
