How to Plant Kumquat Seeds
- 1). Slice your kumquat in half, using the knife, and gently remove the seeds. Rinse the seeds with water and lightly rub them with your fingers to remove any fruit residue. Plant the seeds within a few hours, because they won't be any good if they dry out.
- 2). Mix three parts potting soil with one part sand and fill your planting pots about three-quarters full. Planting pots don't need to be much larger than a yogurt container, but should have holes in the bottom for water drainage.
- 3). Press one seed into the center of each pot, about three-quarters of an inch below the surface of the soil. Cover with soil and gently press the dirt's surface to ensure that the seed is completely surrounded. Water the dirt until it is damp, but not soaking.
- 4). Cover each planting pot with plastic wrap, and place the pots on a plate or tray in a warm area. The plastic wrap will keep the soil moist and encourage the seeds to sprout, and the tray will catch any excess water that drains from the pots.
- 5). Check the pots daily for moisture and growth. If the soil looks dry, add more water. As soon as you see sprouts poking through the soil, remove the plastic wrap and place the pot in a sunny place. Sprouts should appear within two to four weeks, so watch the pots carefully.
