How to Make a Windmill Lawn Ornament
- 1). Draw a line on each sheet of plywood that creates two equal triangles on each piece. Cut along these lines so that you end up with four triangles. Set one of the triangles to the side because it will be used to make the vanes later.
- 2). Stand the remaining three pieces of plywood so that they create a three-dimensional triangle. Screw these pieces together with the deck screws.
- 3). Drill a 1/2-inch hole 2 inches from one end of the 8-inch piece of lumber. Attach the other end of the lumber to the top of the triangle with the screws.
- 4). Measure and cut four triangles from the remaining piece of plywood. Each triangle measures 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches. Measure in 2 inches from the point where the two 12-inch sides meet. Drill a 1/2-inch hole at that mark. Do this on all four triangles.
- 5). Line up the holes on the triangles, then fan them out so they look like the vanes on a windmill. Slip the carriage bolt through the hole to keep the vanes in place. Use deck screws to attach the vanes together where they overlap.
- 6). Attach the vanes to the piece of wood with the hole drilled in it with the carriage bolt and nut. You can tighten the vanes so they cannot move, or you can leave the bolt a little loose so the vanes turn freely.
