How to Make African Wooden Tikis

    • 1). Do an image search for Africa. Save and resize your chosen image of the continent to the exact desired size of the tiki; print it out. Alternatively, you can trace the outline using an image from a book or a world map.

    • 2). Cut out the Africa shape to make a template. Place the template on the wood and trace around it.

    • 3). Cut out the shape using a scroll saw, which allows you to make tight turns and create detailed edges.

    • 4). Drill a hole near the top of the tiki.

    • 5). Sand the edges of the tiki, and then paint or varnish the shape as desired. Paint or varnish the Greek letters, if necessary. Allow it to dry completely.

    • 6). Glue the Greek letters to the Africa tiki using wood glue. Allow the glue to dry completely.

    • 7). Cut the leather cord to your desired length. String the tiki through the cord. When it is centered, tie a knot above the hole in the tiki.

    • 8). String wooden beads on the cord, if desired. Tie the ends in a double knot.
