Child Valentine Crafts
- A quick and easy endeavor is to make a hand-shaped valentine. Have your child trace the shape of his hands onto sheets of construction paper. Help him cut out each traced shape, and have him write his name on the back of the cutout. He can then decorate the hand any way he chooses.
- This activity is a card and a treat combination. To make the flowers, first make a half-heart template that is 3 inches high and 1 1/4 inches wide. Using a 12-inch-by-3-1/2-inch piece of construction paper, have the child trace the template along the fold, four times. She can then cut out the hearts and unfold them. After stacking the hearts, help her punch a hole in the bottom of the heart about 1/4 inch from the bottom. Form a flower by spreading out the heart shapes and glue the edges together. Have the child write names on the petals and then insert a lollipop through the hole.
- A valentine heart wreath is an easy craft for kids to make. Have your child cut a circle in the middle of a paper plate. Using red and pink paper and scissors, have him cut out lots of heart shapes, which can then be glued to the paper plate. Have your child decorate the hearts with glitter or by writing words or children's names on them.
- Another easy valentine craft for children is a suncatcher heart. You will need pink cellophane and glitter glue. Begin by folding the cellophane in half and allowing your child to cut out a heart shape. Since the cellophane is folded, you will end up with two hearts. Have her decorate one of the hearts with glitter glue. Place the undecorated heart on top of the decorated heart, spreading the glue; let it dry. The suncatcher heart can then be taped to a window.
