How to Make Hairbows for Children

    Prepare the Ribbon

    • 1). Secure one end of the ribbon to the end of the dowel using a wooden clothespin.

    • 2). Wrap the ribbon around the dowel as tightly as possible, but without overlapping, and cut the ribbon when you reach the end of the dowel. Secure the other end of the ribbon with another wooden clothespin.

    • 3). Cover your oven rack with foil and place it in the center of the oven.

    • 4). Lay your ribbon-covered dowel in the oven and bake at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 25 minutes.

    • 5). Slide one end of the ribbon off the dowel. If it the curl is loose, put the dowel back in the oven for five more minutes. If it keeps its tight curl, it is finished.

    Make the Hair Bow

    • 1). Cut your korker ribbon into 30 to 50 pieces, each roughly 2 1/2 inches long.

    • 2). Apply clear nail polish to the ends to keep them from fraying.

    • 3). Cut a piece of string roughly 12 inches long and lay it on the table.

    • 4). Lay your ribbons over the string, in the middle. You can use all the same color of korker ribbons, or mix and match to give the hair bow a varied look.

    • 5). Pull the ends of the string up and over the ribbons, making sure to keep them centered on the string, and tie the string tightly, double knotting it for security. This is your bow.

    • 6). Put an elastic band through the string before knotting it to make a ponytail holder.

    • 7). Glue a straight piece of ribbon over a metal clip, then glue the korker bow on top to make a hair clip.

    • 8). Glue or sew the korker bow onto a headband to create a bow-embellished cloth headband.
