Weaving Instructions for Weed Baskets
- 1). Gather a handful of stems and bind them together by tying string around one end. Thread several feet of string through a needle and wrap it around the bound end several times until about 1/3 of the bundle is wrapped in string.
- 2). Shape the wrapped end of your weed bundle into a tiny circle, and coil the remainder of your weed bundle around the circle to create a spiral-like shape. Stitch through the circle's center up around the outside of the spiral to create a base for your basket.
- 3). Continue to coil bundles of weeds around each other. Stitch each coil to the one added previously. Stitch patterns will be visible and can be done consciously to add a unique design to the basket. Stitch each coil on top of the one before it. Make each coil slightly larger than the one before it to make a bowl-shaped basket. Or begin making each coil smaller than the one before it to create a more narrow opening and to produce a basket that looks more like a vase.
- 4). Tuck the end of the string between the final two coils when you make your final stitch. Apply a bit of craft glue to the tip of the string to help hold it in place.
