Buying Mail Order Plants

Online garden centers have made it easy to buy plants and flowers from the comfort of home.
By researching the specialist growers and reputable nurseries, it should be possible to order almost any type of garden or house plant.
But the process of ordering online isn't always a simple process.
Here are several helpful points to consider: Make sure to check the size of the plants that are offered.
Many of the small plants will start to establish much quicker than the large size ones.
Carefully unpack the plants as soon as delivery to the home.
Aim to plant the flowers and plants within 36 hours of receiving the delivery.
Also, it may be necessary to plant the larger ones, like shrubs and trees, even sooner.
Try to keep any of the container plants well-watered until able to move to the permanent planting environment.
If it isn't practical to plant the flowers in the garden straightaway, they can be kept in a frost-proof greenhouse or shed until an available planting time becomes available.
Try packing the plants in containers with straw or similar to keep the roots moist.
If buying the bare-root plants, make sure the root structure isn't given time to dry out completely before the favorable planting conditions arrive.
Small bulbs are easily kept in a shed.
But large shrubs or trees with bare-roots can be placed in a suitable depth trench in the garden until the weather planting conditions are more positive.
The depth of the soil should be enough to let the roots rest below the frozen soil.
If looking to order bulbs, try to choose the larger sized bulbs since they are more likely to produce the high-quality plants.
A bulb on close inspection should just show small growth at the neck and be firm to the touch.
In the process of buying plants via a mail order service, it is crucial to use the garden centers or nurseries with a solid reputation since you aren't able to see what you are buying.
Make sure it is possible to see the actual size of the pots and plants before ordering.
Order the garden supplies at the preferred time of the year, which is before the main growth season starts.
Avoid the warmer months of the year since the plant life is more likely to dry out during the delivery stage.
Also, take notice of the minimum spend and delivery charges that may apply.
