The I/O Magic external enclosure connects an internal 3.5 inch hard disk drive to your computer for use as an external drive. External hard drive enclosures are eco-friendly and convenient in that they allow you to repurpose your old computer's hard drive when you upgrade, or add extra disk space to your desktop or laptop without replacing your existing drive. - I/O Magic's website describes their external enclosure for 3.5 inch hard drives as "hot swappable," meaning you can connect or disconnect the external drive while the computer is running. The drive is also "plug and play," meaning that your computer's operating system will detect the enclosure when you connect it and automatically install the appropriate drivers.
- When connected to a USB 2.0 port, the I/O Magic enclosure achieves a maximum data transfer rate of 480 MB per second. The enclosure is also backward-compatible with USB version 1.1.
- The I/O Magic external enclosure is made of aluminum and is designed to disperse the heat of an enclosed hard drive. Just slightly bigger than a standard 3.5 inch internal hard drive, the I/O Magic measures 1.1 inches high by 4.4 inches wide and 7.7 inches long.
