Do it Yourself Deck Cleaning

    • 1). Remove any items from the deck before cleaning. This includes furniture, plants and other decorative items that you do not wish to clean.

    • 2). Purchase an oxygen bleach cleaning product that features a sodium percarbonate concentration of 25 percent or less. Make sure the cleaning product is designed to clean a deck. These products are available at most home improvement retail stores.

    • 3). Pour the cleaning solution into a bucket and follow the product instructions regarding diluting with water. Make sure you wear a protective face mask as well as protective eyewear when handling the cleaner.

    • 4). Wear protective latex gloves on your hands and dip a large sponge into the cleaning solution. Begin cleaning the deck in one corner and work your way out. Make sure you continually re-dip the sponge to ensure ample cleaning solution is applied. Repeat until the entire deck is cleaned.

    • 5). Allow the deck to dry for 24-hours before replacing furniture and other deck items.
