Nissan Titan Radio Removal
- Before partaking in any task involving the Nissan's electrical system it is essential that you first disconnect the negative battery cable (or grounding cable). The grounding cable is black and connects the Titan's negative battery lead with the chassis of the vehicle. Skipping this step means running the risk of causing serious damage to the electrical components of the truck.
Use a 10-mm wrench to loosen the grounding cable's clamp. Remove the clamp from the negative battery lead post and rest the clamp away from the battery until the removal is complete.
If you plan to immediately replace the Nissan's stereo, wait to reconnect the battery cable until the entire process is finished. - Shift the Titan into low gear to move the gear select lever away from the dash panels and provide the necessary room for stereo removal.
Remove the center console dash trim panel. Grab the panel at the bottom (below the climate control knobs) and lift upward until the bottom clips are detached from the dash. Work your hands around the perimeter of the panel until it is free from the dash. The panel will still be connected to the dash by wire connection for the climate control, the hazard switch and the airbag light.
You will have to disconnect the wire connections to completely remove the panel. But since it is recommended that you do not disconnect the airbag light wiring and the panel can simply rest out of the way while you complete your stereo removal steps, you should not disconnect the wiring from the Titan to the dash panel. Simply let the panel hang, still connected by the wiring. - The removed dash panel will reveal the two screws on either side of the stereo mounting bracket. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws. Pull the Titan's stereo from the dash far enough to access the wiring in the rear of the unit.
Grab the wire groups by the plastic wire binders, not the wires themselves, and pull them from the stereo. The stereo will be completely free from the Nissan's dash.
