- 1). Press the button on the side of the Volkswagen key fob to extend the mechanical key.
- 2). Note the horizontal seam on the front of the Volkswagen fob, located on both sides of the fob's middle button. Insert the tip of an optical-sized flathead screwdriver into the seam and twist it until the mechanical key segment separates from the electronic fob segment.
- 3). Examine the electronic fob segment; note the seam along the segment's left side. Insert the tip of the flathead screwdriver into the seam and work it back and forth until the halves of the electronic segment separate. You can now access the fob's battery compartment and circuit board.
