How to Clean Mildew From Wood Fences

    • 1). Rinse the surface dirt and dust off the wood fence with a water hose.

    • 2). Fill a bucket with 1 gallon warm water and 1 cup oxygen bleach. Oxygen bleach is the safer alternative to chlorine bleach. It will kill mildew and mold without discoloring surfaces or harming vegetation. Mix the contents together with a spoon until the oxygen bleach has dissolved.

    • 3). Saturate a soft-bristled scrub brush into the mixture. Begin scrubbing the mildew -- as well as the surrounding area on the wood fence -- with the saturated scrub brush. Scrub in a back-and-forth motion until you have removed all traces of the mildew.

    • 4). Let the mixture sit on the wood fence for 10 minutes before rinsing the fence clean with a water hose. Repeat the process as needed. Let the wood fence dry completely.

    • 5). Apply a thin layer of wood sealer to the fence to prevent future mold and mildew growth.
