How to Install Windows XP Home Edition Over Windows 982E

    Turn Off the Power Management Settings

    • 1). Click on "Start" and then "Settings" and then "Control Panel."

    • 2). Double-click on "Power Management."

    • 3). Click on the tab that says "Power Scheme."

    • 4). Change the "Turn off monitor" setting to "Never."

    • 5). Change the "Turn off hard disks" setting to Never.

    • 6). Change the "Set System standby" setting to Never.

    Run ScanDisk

    • 1). Click "Start."

    • 2). Click "Programs."

    • 3). Click "System Tools."

    • 4). Click "ScanDisk."

    • 5). Select the "Standard" option and then click "Start."

    Run Scanreg

    • 1). Click "Start."

    • 2). Click "Run."

    • 3). Type "scanregw.exe" in the "Open" box.

    • 4). Click "OK."

    Upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition

    • 1). Insert the Windows XP Home Edition CD into your computer.

    • 2). Click "Install Windows" when you see the welcome screen. If you do not see the welcome screen, proceed to step 3. Otherwise, proceed to step 4.

    • 3). Click "Start" and then "Run." Type "C:\setup.exe" and then click "OK." Proceed to step 4.

    • 4). Select "Upgrade" when you are prompted to choose what type of installation you want.

    • 5). Click "Next."

    • 6). Follow the onscreen instructions that guide you through the Setup Wizard.
