- 1). Insert any CD that came with your portable device into your CD drive. Click the option to run the CD when it comes up on your computer screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers your computer will need to recognize your portable device.
- 2). Plug the USB cord that came with your device into a USB port in the front or the back of your computer. Insert the other, sometimes smaller, end into the device itself. A popup window should appear on your computer screen after a few moments.
- 3). Click "Open" in the popup screen. You'll now see a folder that has all the files in your portable device on it. Open the folder by double-clicking on it.
- 4). Click and drag the files you want from this folder to your computer's desktop. This will download the files to your computer with the USB cord.
