For decades, the only bleach available for home laundry was chlorine bleach. It was great for disinfecting clothes but it could also be harsh and damage fabrics. Now, oxygen bleach is available and can be used on almost every washable fabric.
Amway Legacy of Clean All Fabric Bleach
Amway All Fabric Bleach is one product in the company's Legacy of Clean line of laundry products. Amway products have been on the market since 1959 and can be bought from a local distributor or from the Amway website.
The All Fabric Bleach is a chlorine free bleach that uses the cleaning power of oxygen to remove stains and brighten clothing. It can be used in both regular and high-efficiency washers and is safe for septic systems. It can be used in any temperature of water.
Oxygen-based bleach is safe to use on all colors of washable clothes except wool or silk. It should never be combined with chlorine bleach but can be used with liquid or powdered detergents.
The bleach is packaged in a recyclable tub and has directions and safety information printed in three languages - English, French and Spanish. While the tub does not include a list of ingredients, you can find them online. They are:
- Sodium Carbonate Peroxyhydrate (hydrogen peroxide on washing soda)
- Pareth-25-7 (nonionic surfactant)
- Fragrance
The product is available in a 2.6 pound package and comes with a measuring scoop. This size will give 40 uses. It is made in the USA and the packaging contains a minimum of 25 percent post consumer resin. Legacy of Clean All Fabric Bleach has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Design for the Environment program.
LOC and The Amway Story
In 1959, Amway introduced their first cleaning product, L.O.C. (Liquid Organic Cleaner). It was promoted as a multi-purpose cleaner that could be used to mop floors, clean windows and remove laundry stains. Many of the cleaning products are still based on that original formula. SA8 laundry detergent was the second product offered by Amway. Since that time, the line of household and laundry cleaners has grown and is now known as Legacy of Clean.
The Amway company is the world's largest direct selling company. Founded by Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos, Amway now operates in more than eighty countries with more than 14,000 employees and three million distributors. The company is still controlled by the Van Andel and DeVos families and is based in Ada, Michigan.
SA8 laundry detergent was the second product offered by Amway. The S stands for "Surface", the A for "Active" and the 8 represents the eight ingredients in the original formula. By the 1970s, Amway had removed environmentally dangerous phosphates from its laundry detergents and in the 1980s the company began to concentrate their laundry formulas to reduce on packaging and the impact of transporting heavy materials. The 1990s brought the formulation of BIOQUEST, a crystals technology offers instant dissolvability so detergents can begin cleaning immediately. By 2002, the entire line of SA8 products had been reformulated for optimal cleaning results.
Amway's Legacy of Clean Laundry Products have been recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as Design for the Environment products.

About Laundry Recommendations
I am an unabashed proponent of oxygen-based bleach because, when used properly, it can remove most tannin and dye based stains, including color bleeding stains. It can be used a both a laundry detergent booster and as a presoak for tough stains.
I gave Amway's All Fabric Bleach a try on grape juice and red gelatin stains. By allowing it time to work, the stains were removed from cotton muslin. I also brightened a vintage printed tablecloth which had yellowed over time.
My only complaint is that there is no need for an added fragrance to the product. Overall, Amway All Fabric Bleach deserves a spot on your laundry shelf.
