How to Connect Drainage Pipes

    • 1). Step over one section of the drain tile, with the end close to your toes. Adjust the pipe so that the end is close to your shins, and then firmly pinch the end of the pipe between your feet.

    • 2). Press the fitting firmly onto the pipe. There are teeth inside the fitting to make sure the pipe stays secure, but you need to push the pipe in firmly in order to make sure that these teeth get a good grip.

    • 3). Pinch the end of the other section of pipe between your feet, and firmly press the fitting, now connected to one section of pipe, to the section of pipe between your feet. Again, make sure that the pipe is pressed in all the way.

    • 4). Tug on the pipes in order to ensure that the fitting is secure. You should not be able to pull the pipes apart unless you are tugging quite hard. The connection does not have to be strong, considering that it will be buried in the trench anyway, but it should be strong enough to withstand a firm tug.
