How to Autohide the Taskbar Permanently

    • 1). Place the mouse pointer over an open area of the taskbar. Right-click, and select "Properties." If the taskbar has no open areas, open the Start menu, right-click the open area in the bottom-right corner and select "Properties."

    • 2). Click the "Taskbar" tab at the top of the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window.

    • 3). Place a check in the "Lock the Taskbar" box. This prevents you from accidentally moving the taskbar to another area on the screen.

    • 4). Place a check in the "Auto-hide the Taskbar" box.

    • 5). Click "OK." Windows retracts the taskbar off of the screen. To make this change permanent, do not remove the check from the "Auto-hide the taskbar" box when editing the Start Menu and Taskbar Properties.
