How to Recover XP With a Boot Disk

    • 1). Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer. Restart the computer with the CD inserted into the drive.

    • 2). Choose to boot from the CD. Do this by pressing F12 at the initial boot screen, and then selecting the boot from CD option.

    • 3). Press "Enter" when prompted to start the Windows XP set-up program. Do not use the Recovery Console if prompted by Windows XP set-up. Advance to the licensing agreement screen and agree to the license by pressing F8.

    • 4). Select the current Windows XP installation from the set-up screen. This is the Windows XP installation already on the computer. Press "R" to repair this installation.

    • 5). Follow the repair wizard steps to complete the repair. This step may take significant time to complete, depending on the configuration of the computer. Windows XP set-up will prompt you to restart when the repair is complete.
