Windows XP Update Issues

    Windows Update Failing to Install

    • One issue you may experience with an Windows XP Update is the package failing to install on your computer. The update package downloads or starts to download, but doesn't. The problem presents itself if your computer stops the downloading process or your Internet connection is interrupted. The problem also presents itself if Internet Explorer is out of date or has developed a problem.

Prompting For A Download That Has Already Been Completed

    • Being prompted to install an update that has already been installed is another issue you experience with a Windows XP update. You know your computer has recently installed an update package and the Windows XP Update tool is attempting to download the same package. The problem is related to a Windows Registry key not being present within your computer that tells the Windows XP Update tool the update package is already downloaded and installed.

    Computer Operating Abnormally

    • Another Windows XP Update issue you may experience is your computer restating automatically after an update package has been downloaded and installed. This issue may be caused by one update package or a combination of update packages not downloading and installing correctly. Other issues include your computer shutting down automatically, your computer running slow and/or your computer not being able to access the Internet or other applications.

    Computer Issuing a System Dump

    • Your Windows XP system may also issue a system dump, also known as the "Blue Screen of Death." This issue may occur during the update package download or immediately after the update has installed. Your computer starts the system dump and you have to turn off your computer manually and restart the system. You may or may not be able to get your computer operating properly without doing a "System Restore" to roll back your computer to a previous working state.
