How to Install XP on an Acer Extensa
- 1). Load the XP setup CD into your Acer Extensa's CD or DVD drive and restart your laptop. Tap any key on your notebook's keyboard when you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message after restarting.
- 2). Hit the "Enter" key on your notebook's keyboard when the blue "Welcome to Setup" screen loads to begin the installation. Read the license terms for Windows XP and hit the "F8" key to verify that you accept them.
- 3). Select your hard disk drive as the location that you want to install XP on and tap "Enter" to continue. This may be listed as "Unpartitioned space" if your HDD is currently empty. Press the "Enter" key to begin formatting your laptop's HDD.
- 4). Click "Next" when the XP setup window appears. Type in your name and organization and click "Next" to proceed. Type in the product key that came with your XP CD and click "Next" to validate your copy of Windows.
- 5). Enter a name for your Acer Extensa laptop and a password for the "Administrator" account that is automatically created by XP and click the "Next" button. Select the local time, date, and appropriate time zone on the screen that follows and click on the "Next" button to proceed.
- 6). Click the "Next" button on the "Networking Settings" screen and the "Workgroup or Computer Domain" screen that follows. Click "OK" on the "Display Settings" and "Monitor Settings" boxes that pop up. Click on the green "Next" button at the bottom of the "Welcome to Microsoft Windows" screen that appears.
- 7). Click the green "Next" button on the "Will this computer connect to the Internet directly, or through a network" and "How will this computer connect to the Internet" screens that come up. Click "Next" on the Ready to activate Windows" and "Ready to register with Microsoft" screens that follow.
- 8). Enter your name, physical address, and e-mail address on the "Collecting Registration Information" screen and hit "Next" to proceed. Type in names to create accounts for people that will use your Acer Extensa on the screen that follows and click "Next" to continue.
- 9). Click on the green arrow icon next to the text that reads "Finish" on the next screen that appears. Windows XP is now fully installed on your Acer Extensa laptop.
