How to Move the Start Menu or Dock
- 1). Right-click on a blank area of the Start menu and click "Lock the Taskbar" if it has a check mark next to it. This will unlock the task bar, letting you resize various parts of the bar--such as your QuickLaunch tool bar, if you use it--and relocate it to other parts of your screen.
- 2). Click a blank part of the taskbar and hold the button down. Drag your mouse pointer to different sides of the screen and the taskbar and Start menu will follow it. To release the Start menu, simply let go of the mouse when it has reached the side of the screen you want it to stay on. To increase or decrease the bar's width, hover over the edge of the bar until your icon turns into two arrows. Click and drag up and down/left and right until you have the size you want.
- 3). Lock the taskbar again when you have finished to prevent the bar from being moved or resized by accident.
- 1). Open your System Preferences by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen and selecting "System Preferences," then click "Dock" to open the Dock's preferences window.
- 2). Change the physical size of the dock by moving the "Size" slider to the left and right. This increases the size of the dock itself and all the icons in it. Making it larger makes it easier to see, but will take up more space on your screen and may affect your application windows. You can also change how large the icons become when you move your mouse over them by changing the "Magnification" settings (or disabling it completely).
- 3). Select which side of the screen you want the Dock to display on by clicking "Left," "Bottom" or "Right" next to "Position on screen." The effects will take place instantly so you can choose where it looks best.
