How to Get Rid of the McAfee Downloads From AOL

    Windows 2000/XP

    • 1). Click on the Windows desktop "Start" button, followed by "Control Panel." AOL notes that Windows 2000 users can also click "Settings" after clicking the "Start" button.

    • 2). Click on "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel window that appears. Scroll down the list of available programs until you locate "McAfee SecurityCenter." Click it once to highlight it. Click on the "Change/Remove" button that appears within the highlighted area below the program information.

    • 3). Check off all the check boxes in the list that appear in a pop-up window labeled "Remove McAfee Programs." Click the "Remove" button.

    • 4). Click "Remove" on the McAfee SecurityCenter window that appears. A status window appears and shows the progress of the removal. When prompted to do so, click "Yes" to restart the computer.

    Windows Vista

    • 1). Click "Start" and then "Control Panel." Click the "Program" link and then the "Programs and Features" link. AOL indicates that some users may not need to click the "Program" link, instead the "Programs and Features" link appears first.

    • 2). Locate "McAfee SecurityCenter" in the list of programs. Click on it once. Locate and click on the "Uninstall/Change" button that is at the top of the list of programs.

    • 3). Click "Continue" in the pop-up warning window that appears. Select all of the check boxes next to the items that appear in the next window titled "Remove McAfee Programs." Click on "Remove."

    • 4). Click "Remove" in the next McAfee SecurityCenter window that appears. After the items have been removed you will be prompted to restart the computer. Click on the "Yes" button.
