How to Boot Windows XP From CD
- 1). Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD drive. Choose "Open folder to view files" from the dialog box to open Windows Explorer.
- 2). Click "Edit." Click "Select all" to select all of the files on the disc. Click "Edit," then "Copy." Press the "Windows" and "D" keys to go to the desktop.
- 3). Right-click the desktop. Point to "New." Click "Folder." Right-click "New folder" and choose "Rename" from the contextual menu.
- 4). Rename the folder to "WinXP." Double-click the folder to open it. Click "Edit." Click "Paste" to transfer copies of the Windows XP setup files to the new folder.
- 5). Remove the Windows XP CD from the CD drive and insert a blank disk in its place.
- 6). Download and run PE Builder (see the Resources). Click the "Source" button. Navigate to the desktop and double-click the "WinXP" folder.
- 7). Leave the output path as "BartPE." Click the "Burn to CD/DVD" radio button. Choose your CD burner from the "Device" drop-down menu.
- 8). Click "Build" to burn a light-weight version of the Windows XP operating system to CD. Restart the computer after the burn process is complete.
- 9). Tap the setup key shown on the boot screen to go to the BIOS Setup Utility. Use the directional keys to select the "Boot" menu.

Press "Enter." Go to the "Boot Device" option. Press "Enter." Use the up- and down-arrow keys to highlight "CD Drive." - 11
Press the "+" or "PgUp" key to move the device to the top. Press "Enter." Press "Esc" to return to the main menu. - 12
Go to "Save and Exit." Press "Enter" to save your changes and quit the BIOS Setup Utility. The computer should boot to Windows XP from the CD.
