How to Extend the Play Time for Windows Startup Sound
- 1). Click on the "Start" menu in the lower-left corner of the screen.
- 2). Click on "Control Panel." A new window will open.
- 3). Click on "Hardware and Sound." New options will appear.
- 4). Click on "Sound." A new window will open.
- 5). Click on the "Sounds" tab at the top of the Sound window. A listing of Windows actions and associated audio cues will appear.
- 6). Scroll through the list and click "Windows Logon." This represents the sound that plays when you start Windows and log on.
- 7). Click on the drop-down arrow that reads "Windows Logon Sound.wav." This will open a list of other default Windows sounds. Select a longer sound to play at startup from the list. To test the volume and duration of the sound file, click "Test." You can also click "Browse" in order to select a custom file to play at startup. You can select virtually any sound file available on your computer to play at startup; just keep in mind that any playback files longer than 5 or 10 seconds will potentially slow down your system's boot time.
- 8). Click "OK" when you are finished editing the startup sound file.
