Problems with a Windows Installer Dialog Box
- The Windows Installer dialog box can produce hundreds of error messages. Many of these error messages also have an accompanying message that will fully explain how to fix the error. For example, error 1202 states "Please insert the disk." The entire list of error messages is available at the MSDN site (see Resources).
- This error reports that a file is in use. If you have attempted to close that file and it still appears, then you will have to restart your computer system.
- This error occurs when other installation packages are also operating simultaneously. If you experience this when you are certain nothing else is open, it is because of the high-traffic environment. Free up some virtual memory and try again.
- As this error states, you do not have enough disk space. Specifically, this error appears when custom packages are being installed that take up too much space.
- This error is similar to error 1306 but can be caused by processes as well as files. Again a restart should fix this problem.
- This error occurs when you are trying to perform an upgrade on an existing product and the existing product cannot be found. Make sure you have the initial software installed first.
