How to Install SQL 2005 on Windows XP
- 1). Insert your SQL 2005 install disk into your computer's CD/DVD drive. An auto-play window should appear on your screen once you have closed the disk tray. If no auto-play appears, open "My Computer" and double-click your CD/DVD drive to launch the auto-play screen.
- 2). Click either the "x86-based Operating Systems" if you are running the 32-bit version of XP, or the "x64-based Operating Systems" option if you are running the 64-bit version. This will take you to the "Start" screen.
- 3). Click the "Server Components, Tools, Books Online, and Samples" link under the "Install" header. This will launch the installation program.
- 4). Click "I accept" followed by "Next" and "Install". Continue clicking "Next" until you reach the "Registration Information" screen.
- 5). Enter your name, company name, and the 25-character serial key into the appropriate text boxes on this screen, then click "Next".
- 6). Check all the boxes next to the components you wish to install, then click "Next". Make sure that "SQL Server Database Services" is checked off, as this is the main SQL component. If you wish to further customize your install, click the "Advanced" button and select the further components you wish to include, or exclude.
- 7). Click "Next" then select "Default Instance", and click "Next" again.
- 8). Select the "Use the Built-In System Account" radio button and ensure that the drop-down menu immediately to the right of the button is set to "Local System". Click "Next" to continue.
- 9). Select the "Mixed Mode" radio button, then type in a "System Administrator" password in the text boxes provided. Click "Next".
