Win98 File Identification
- Windows 98 files uses a CAB file feature to decompress Windows 98 files for directory identification. These files are decompressed when loading or installing Windows 98. The files automatically create directories for application management. All files are separated into their proper directories.
- There are two major Windows 98 file identification directories. The directory WIN98/system32 contains Windows 98 files that assist in 32-bit processing of information. These files range from .dll files to .txt instruction files. The other directory used for Windows file identification is the WIN98/system directory. Files in this directory govern the general applications and operations of the Windows 98 system.
- Within the WIN98 directories, there are sub-files and folders that connect different applications. If a WIN98 file directory is deleted, the operating system may not boot up, and therefore, a recovery is needed. The WIN98 directory can be hidden from users through the Control Panel to eliminate deleting files identified with the Windows 98 file structure.
