How to Print From a Windows-Based XP Virtual PC to Vista

    Windows Vista Computer

    • 1). Click the "Start" button in the Windows Vista computer. Open "Control Panel" and click "Network and Internet" and "Network and Sharing Center."

    • 2). Click the down arrow to the right of "Printer Sharing" in the "Sharing and Discovery" section. Click "Apply."

    • 3). Go back to the main "Control Panel" page from the "Start" menu. Open "Hardware and Sound" and "Printers."

    • 4). Right-click the name of the printer and select "Properties." Go to the "Sharing" tab, click "Change sharing options" and check the box next to "Share this printer."

    • 5). Click "Apply." Click the "Start" button, right-click "Computer" and select "Properties."

    • 6). Click "Change Settings" under "Computer name, domain and workgroup settings." Click "Change" and enter a name in the workgroup text box.

    • 7). Click "OK" in both windows to save the settings. Restart the computer.

    Windows XP Virtual PC

    • 1). Click "Start" in the lower right corner of the host computer, then click "All Programs" and "Microsoft Virtual PC." Double-click the virtual PC. Within the virtual PC, click "Start," right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties."

    • 2). Go to the "Computer Name" tab and click "Change..." Enter the same name you used in Windows Vista for the workgroup name and press "OK" in both windows.

    • 3). Click "Start," "Control Panel," "Printers and other hardware" and "View installed printers or fax printers." Click "Add a printer" on the left, choose the option for "A network printer" and click "Next."

    • 4). Select "Browse for a printer" and "Next." Click the name of your workgroup in the list, the name of the Windows Vista computer and then the printer name.

    • 5). Click "Next" and follow the steps to install the printer. You can now print to your printer from the virtual PC.
