How to Do a Windows XP Disk Check on Startup

- 1). Click "Start" and "My Computer."
- 2). Right-click the disk you want to check and click "Properties."
- 3). Click the "Tools" tab at the top of the "Properties" window.
- 4). Click "Check Now."
- 5). Click the "Automatically Fix File System Errors" and "Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" check boxes. The disk check is performed in read-only mode and doesn't fix problems unless these check boxes are checked.
- 6). Click "Start."
- 7). Click "Yes" when asked if you want to check the disk at the next startup.
- 8). Restart your computer by clicking "Start," "Turn Off Computer" and "Restart."
