How to Create a Boot Up Disc for Vista

    • 1). Label all of your recovery discs in the proper numerical order in advance. You can use either CDs or DVDs to create your boot discs. It will require up to 10 blank CDs, or 3 blank DVDs to create the boot discs.

    • 2). Click on the "Start" menu. In the box labeled "Start Search," type "Recovery Manager." Click the "Recovery Manager" icon from the search results to open the utility.

    • 3). Allow the Recovery Manager program wizard to load. This is a streamlined and basic version of the program offering detailed directions along the way for novice users. Select the option that reads "Advanced."

    • 4). Select the option that reads "Recovery Disc Creation." You will be asked to specify whether you are using CDs or DVDs to create your recovery discs. Choose the appropriate option and follow the directions on screen until the burning process begins. Whenever a disc becomes filled to capacity, take it out of your burner drive and replace it with a new blank disc until the process is complete.

    • 5). Store discs in a place where you won't lose them. If your computer crashes, they could be the only thing that saves you from having to plunk down hundreds of dollars on a new computer.
