Windows Explorer Is Slow When I Click on a File

    Adjust Windows Explorer in XP

    • 1). Double click "My Computer" on the desktop.

    • 2). Click "Tools" on the menu bar and open "Folder Options."

    • 3). Click the "View" tab. Remove the check mark from the "Automatically search for network folders and printers" option.

    Fix Windows Explorer in Vista and Windows 7

    • 1). Press the Windows button on the keyboard and open "Control Panel."

    • 2). Open "Appearance and Personalization" and click "Personalization."

    • 3). Open "Windows Color and Appearance" and select "Open classic appearance properties for more color options."

    • 4). Choose "Windows Aero Basic" under the "Color Scheme" section. Click "Apply" and click "OK."

    Run the Error-Checking Tool

    • 1). Press the Windows button on the keyboard and open "Computer."

    • 2). Right click the "C" drive and click "Properties." Select the "Tools" tab.

    • 3). Click the "Error-checking" button, and click "Continue" if the "User Account Control" prompt appears.

    • 4). Place a check mark by both of the repair options and click "Start" to run the tool. Reboot your system once the scan is complete.
