How to Download DOS Programs on Windows XP
- 1). Download the DOS program from the Internet. Be sure to save the file in an easy to locate directory on your "C" drive.
- 2). Click on "My Computer" and then on the directory where the downloaded program is stored. Unzip the program if needed.
- 3). Click on the "Set-up" or "Install" file name. This will open the command prompt window where you will be able to follow the onscreen instructions to fully load the program.
- 4). Browse the directory that the program creates and look for a file that has the "Ico" extension. Right-click on this file and copy and paste it to your desktop. This will give you a double-click icon to start the program without having to go to the command prompt and type the start file name.
- 5). Click on "Start" and then "Accessories" to access the Command Prompt if the program doesn't have an icon file. From the Command Prompt, type "cd\program directory" to enter the downloaded program directory.
- 6). Type the program name to start the program.
- 1). Insert the first disk, or the CD, into the drive.
- 2). Click on the "My Computer" icon and locate the setup, or install file on the disk.
- 3). Double-click the file to install the program. XP will open a Command Prompt box where you can follow the onscreen instructions to finish the installation.
